Engwe Y1000

Engwe Y1000

A Beast on Paper — But Does It Deliver?

The brand-new Engwe Y1000 looks seriously impressive on paper. Dual motors. Massive torque. Advanced app integration. Full suspension. NFC unlocking.
But as always, specs are one thing — real-world riding is another.
So the real question is: does it actually live up to the hype?

First impressions: Comfortable, Stable, Confidence-Inspiring

Right away, what stood out to me was how planted this scooter feels.
The large rubber-covered deck gives you plenty of space to position your feet comfortably. Pair that with full suspension and quality tires, and the ride feels stable and controlled — even over uneven city streets.
It’s easy to ride. It feels secure underneath you. And that sense of stability matters more than flashy specs.

Specifications:

  • Motor: 1200W x2
  • Top Speed: 25 km/h
  • Battery: 52V 22.5Ah
  • Range: Up to 100 km (eco mode)
  • Brakes: Hydraulic
  • Weight: 36.1kg
  • Smart Features: Built-in GPS, 4G, Bluetooth, Navigation and NFC Cards
  • Rider Height Range: 121–185 cm

Power: Held Back — But You Can Feel It

I’ve been testing the Y1000 in the city, where the legal speed limit is 25 km/h. I’m not authorized to unlock it, so yes — it’s capped.
And honestly? You can feel that this scooter wants to go faster.
With dual 1200W motors producing a combined 56 Nm of torque, there’s serious muscle here. But the limiter holds it back. It’s almost like driving a sports car in a school zone — you know there’s more under your foot.
Most of my riding has been in dual-motor Sport mode, and one thing I genuinely appreciate is how smooth the acceleration is. It doesn’t jerk forward or snap aggressively. Instead, it launches in a controlled, predictable way.

That smoothness adds to the premium feel.
To move it out of parking mode, you have to squeeze one of the brakes first — a small but thoughtful safety feature. There are three riding modes:
– Eco
– Drive
– Sport

The main difference? Maximum speed.
Even with the cap in place, I haven’t found a hill that truly challenges it.

Suspension & Winter Testing

The full suspension setup isn’t adjustable, but it handles cracked pavement and rough city roads impressively well. It smooths out bumps without feeling overly soft.
What’s more interesting is that I’ve been testing this scooter during winter — in snow, wet streets, and temperatures around -8°C (17°F).
No major issues so far.

The brakes can get a little noisy when dirt and moisture build up, but after cleaning them, they’re back to normal. With an IPX5 rating, it’s well-equipped for wet riding conditions.

Real-World Range in the Cold

Cold weather is never ideal for batteries.
The Y1000 packs a 52V 22.5Ah battery, and in -8°C conditions, I managed around 55–65 km of range.
That’s actually respectable considering the temperature. In warmer weather, you can reasonably expect better performance and longer range.

Brakes, lights & controls

The hydraulic brakes are strong and confidence-inspiring. They bring the 35 kg scooter to a quick, controlled stop.
Quick reminder:
– Rear brake → Left lever
– Front brake → Right lever

The handlebar width feels balanced — stable without being overly wide. There’s no height adjustment, but riders between roughly 121 cm and 185 cm should feel comfortable.
With a maximum load capacity of 120 kg, this is clearly built as a sturdy, durable machine.

Smart tech & app integration

The cockpit layout is clean and intuitive:
– Left side: controls + small bell
– Center: bright, high-tech display
– Right side: thumb throttle

You can power it on using the included NFC card, the power button, or unlock it via the app with a password.
And speaking of the app — this is where things get impressive.

App Integration That Actually Adds Value

Through the app, you can:
– Adjust scooter settings
– Control lighting
– Activate cruise control
– Use built-in navigation

My favorite feature? Turn-by-turn navigation directly on the scooter display.
You set your route in the app, put your phone in your pocket, and the directions appear right on the scooter screen. That’s not just a gimmick — it’s genuinely useful.

Cruise control is another nice addition. It improves the riding experience, though I didn’t use it much in winter conditions for safety reasons.

Lighting & Visibility

The lighting system is thoughtfully designed:
– Front light with low and high beam
– Rear brake light
– Integrated turn signals
– Customizable ambient lighting via the app

It’s practical — but if you want a little personality, you can add it too.

Folding & Build Quality

The folding mechanism feels solid and secure. It’s easy to fold and unfold, and once locked, there’s no rattling or instability.
There’s also an aluminum hook that makes carrying it easier when folded — useful considering it weighs 35 kg.
This is not a lightweight commuter toy. It’s a substantial machine.

So… Is It Worth It?

Here’s my honest take.
If you’re looking for a high-quality, well-built electric scooter with:
– Strong dual-motor performance
Excellent ride stability
Solid safety features
Impressive app integration

The Engwe Y1000 is absolutely worth considering.
That said — with the speed cap in place, it doesn’t feel particularly exciting. You can sense how much more it wants to give.
The power is there.
If you live outside strict city limits and can legally unlock its full performance, I believe this scooter would truly come alive. It feels like a powerful machine built for longer rides, adventure, and durability.
