Duotts E29

Duotts E29 Review:

A Surprisingly Powerful EU-Legal eMTB You Need to Know About

Welcome back to BK42 Cycles!
Today, we’re diving deep into a machine that caught me off guard in more ways than one — the Duotts E29, an electric mountain bike that blends affordability with surprising performance. There’s a lot to appreciate about this bike… and a few things that could definitely be better. As always, this is my honest, real-world review — no sugar-coating.
And if you stick around to the end, I’ve got a sweet discount code waiting for you.

Let’s kick things off with the feature that impressed me the most: the motor.
Yes, the E29 is an EU-legal 250W bike, but trust me — it does not behave like one. This thing packs a high-torque 250W motor pushing 50 N·m, and it climbs like a mountain goat. Hills up to 30°? It handles them effortlessly.

To put it simply:
👉 It’s one of the strongest 250W motors I’ve ever tested.

Out of the box, speed is capped at the EU-standard 25 km/h, but unlock it in the display settings and you’re hitting around 38 km/h.
There’s an optional throttle too, though honestly… you won’t need it.

Torque Sensor — The Secret Ingredient for a Natural Ride

The second standout feature is the torque sensor. This is what makes the E29 feel less like a moped and more like a responsive, intuitive mountain bike.

Pedal lightly? It assists lightly.
Pedal hard? It rockets forward.
That natural riding feel makes a huge difference

Battery Performance — Official vs Real-World

Powering the motor is a removable 48V, 13.5Ah battery with an official range of about 90 km.
In my real-world test — riding mostly on assist levels 4 and 5 — I got around 60 km, which is pretty reasonable for a bike with this kind of power output.

A nice bonus? If your battery dies, the E29 still rides like a normal mountain bike.
I tested it with the system turned off, and it was surprisingly easy to pedal.

The Shimano two-finger hydraulic brakes are excellent.

Strong, reliable, and confidence-inspiring.

There is one drawback:
👉 No motor inhibitor.
This means if you’re accelerating and hit the brakes, the motor doesn’t instantly cut off. It’s not a huge problem, but worth mentioning.

On the flip side… it does make it easier to do donuts.

Build Quality & Design — Clean, Sharp, and Solid

The Duotts E29 is definitely a looker. Here’s what stands out:

– Fits riders 170–200 cm tall
– Supports up to 150 kg

This thing feels sturdy — and looks even better in person.

– Maximum Load: 150kg
– Suitable Height: 170 – 200cm
– Battery: 48V, 13.5Ah battery

– App: Supports Bluetooth connection to the Duotts app
– Climbing Angle: 30°

Suspension Setup — One Hit, One Miss

👍 Front: Zoom Suspension
– Adjustable rebound
– Adjustable pressure
– Lockout function
– Smooth and responsive

No complaints — it works great.

👎 Rear: DNM Shock
– It works… but it’s hard
– Too stiff for my taste
– Not the most comfortable on longer rides

For me, this is one of the components I’d consider upgrading.

The Saddle Situation — Looks Good, Feels… Not So Good

The saddle looks like a typical mountain bike seat, but it’s way too hard. After an hour or two, you’ll definitely feel it.
This is the first thing I’d replace on the E29.
The handlebars are fine, but simply a matter of preference — I like wider bars for mountain biking.

Controls & Display — Clean, Simple, No Nonsense

The controls are laid out nicely:
– Left: front brake, gear shifter, assist controller, bell
– Center: bright, compact display
– Right: rear shifter, throttle, rear brake

The display shows everything you need, but:
👉 No Bluetooth or app integration.

On the plus side, the rubber grips feel great.

Ride Quality — Like a Normal MTB, With a Power Boost

The E29 pedals like a typical mountain bike. This isn’t a throttle-only cruiser — and that’s a good thing. The optional half-throttle is available outside Europe, but as an EU-legal bike, it ships without one.
I installed it for testing only, and honestly, it’s more fun to ride with pedal assist. The motor support makes climbing and accelerating feel natural and exciting.
The Shimano Tourney Z 14-speed drivetrain shifts smoothly and provides enough range for all kinds of terrain. No ghost pedaling — even at higher speeds.

Assembly & Final Verdict

The E29 arrives neatly packed and is quick and simple to assemble — as you can see in my unboxing and assembly video.

⭐ Final Thoughts
The Duotts E29 is a solid, well-built electric mountain bike with impressive performance for its price. It’s not perfect, but none of its drawbacks are deal-breakers — and most are easily fixable.
If you want a powerful, comfortable, EU-legal eMTB with great value for money, the E29 is definitely worth considering.
