First Impressions & Unboxing

Right out of the box, the Engwe MapFour N1 Pro makes a strong first impression. The packaging is secure, and assembly is quick and easy—within 20 minutes, it’s ready to ride.
The first thing you’ll notice is how lightweight it is. The carbon fiber frame gives it a futuristic, premium look while keeping the bike incredibly light at just 20 kg.
Riding it around, I was surprised by the amount of attention it got—it’s sleek, modern, and definitely a head-turner.

What I Love About the N1 Pro

Powerful Mid-Drive Motor – The 250W, 80Nm mid-drive Ananda motor is the star of the show. It’s quiet, efficient, and packs a serious punch.
Since it’s an EU-legal e-bike, there’s no throttle, but the torque sensor is well-tuned. Just start pedaling, and the motor kicks in smoothly.

You get five pedal assist levels:
Levels 0 and 1 feel nearly the same.
Level 2 gives a small push.
Level 3 starts getting fun.
Level 5? That’s where the real action happens!

Battery Life & Performance

Engwe claims a 100 km range, but let’s be real—that’s only happening on PAS 1 with a lightweight rider. In my case (80 kg), I got around 34 km on a single charge at higher assist levels.
The 36V, 10Ah removable battery is decent, but the good news is that since the bike is so light, riding it with a dead battery feels like a regular bicycle. No stress!
The Shimano Tourney derailleur ensures smooth pedaling, and there’s no ghost pedaling—another big plus!
The bike’s max assist speed is 25 km/h, and without the motor, I couldn’t push it much beyond that.

Quick Charging – A full charge takes just 1.5 hours, which is a huge win for daily commuters.

Comfort & Riding Experience

For someone used to cruiser bikes, I expected some discomfort riding a gravel/mountain-style e-bike, but the N1 Pro surprised me.
The riding position is fairly comfortable, and at just 20.2 kg (with the rear rack), it’s easy to maneuver. It’s designed for riders between 165 cm and 199 cm, supporting up to 120 kg.

A Few Downsides
– The seat tube is too short. At 179 cm, I found it a bit low, so I’ll be swapping it for a longer one.
– A quick-release seat clamp would’ve been a much better choice.
– The saddle is just okay—it might need an upgrade for long rides.

Smart Features – A High-Tech Ride!

The Engwe app adds some great smart features:
Remote locking and alarm – Get notified if someone touches your bike.
GPS tracking – The bike stays locked and trackable even without the main battery.
Navigation integration – Set your destination in the app, and turn-by-turn directions appear on the bike’s display.
Ambient lights – Cool but questionable usefulness.
One security concern: Since the bike is so light, someone could just carry it away! So, I still use a traditional bike lock—better safe than sorry.

Display & Lighting

The handlebar-integrated display is bright and easy to read. I initially had some metric conversion issues (KM/H kept switching to MPH), but a few app restarts fixed it.
The headlight is fantastic—super bright with high and low beams. But the taillight? Not so much. It’s solar-powered and turns on/off randomly. For a premium e-bike, I expected better integration.

Build Quality & Performance

The carbon fiber frame is top-tier—it looks and feels like something from Trek or Specialized.
The geometry is well-designed, and Engwe even managed to fit a kickstand (a rare find on carbon bikes!).

Hydraulic brakes – Unbranded, but effective. Even with 160mm rotors, stopping power is excellent.
City tires – Smooth ride, but since the frame is rigid (no suspension), expect a bumpy ride on rough roads.
Battery rattle – Not a big issue, but I noticed some noise over cobblestone streets.
Mudguards – Aluminum, effective in wet conditions.
Chain guard – Odd design, doesn’t fully align with the chain, but helps keep your pants clean.
Rear rack – Supports up to 25 kg—perfect for groceries or light cargo.
