Duotts C29 Review:

A Budget E-Bike That Gets the Job Done

Electric bikes have become increasingly popular over the last few years, and one model I keep seeing everywhere around the city—especially ridden by delivery couriers—is the Duotts C29.
After spending plenty of time testing it in different conditions, I can see exactly why it’s become such a common sight.

The C29 doesn’t try to be a premium electric mountain bike loaded with expensive components. Instead, it focuses on delivering solid performance, durability, and practicality at a price that’s hard to beat.
So, is it worth buying? Here’s everything you need to know.

Motor Performance

The Duotts C29 is powered by a 750W rear hub motor producing 65 Nm of torque.
In its European configuration, the bike is limited to 25 km/h, and the throttle is optional to comply with EU regulations. However, if you unlock the speed limiter and enable the throttle (where local laws allow), the bike is capable of reaching approximately 43 km/h. Just remember that riding in this configuration is not road legal in many European countries.

For most of my testing, I rode the bike in its unlocked mode using PAS Level 5.
Once the motor gets going, the bike feels genuinely quick. Rather than delivering an aggressive surge of power, acceleration is smooth and progressive. Personally, I found this makes the bike predictable and comfortable to ride, especially in city traffic. Riders looking for instant punch off the line may find it a little too gentle, but many commuters will appreciate the controlled power delivery.

Climbing Ability

I also took the C29 onto some steep hills that go well beyond what most commuters would normally encounter.
Overall, it handled climbs surprisingly well. On the steepest sections I still had to contribute a fair amount of pedal power, but that’s exactly what I’d expect from a rear hub motor in this price range.
For urban riding, commuting, and moderate hills, the motor is more than capable. However, if your riding regularly includes steep mountain trails or demanding off-road terrain, Duotts offers more powerful models that are better suited for those conditions.

Battery and Real-World Range

Powering the bike is a removable 48V 15Ah battery that can be charged either while installed or removed from the frame.
That flexibility is always welcome, especially if you live in an apartment or don’t have easy access to an outdoor power outlet.

Duotts advertises a range of up to 100 km, but as always, real-world results depend heavily on riding style.
During my testing, I rode almost exclusively in the highest assistance level and pushed the bike fairly hard. Under those conditions, I achieved roughly 41 km on a single charge, which is actually quite respectable considering both the battery size and how aggressively I was riding.
Charging takes approximately 6 to 8 hours.

Interestingly, I’ve noticed that many delivery riders choose the Duotts C29-K, a version equipped with dual batteries, making it a much better option for long working days where maximum range matters.

Another thing I really liked is the battery placement. Since it’s mounted low in the center of the frame, the bike feels nicely balanced while riding. And because it’s removable, carrying the bike upstairs becomes significantly easier once the battery is taken out. It suddenly feels much closer to lifting a standard bicycle.
Replacing the battery in the future should also be straightforward if it eventually loses capacity.

Ride Quality and Components

The Duotts C29 is clearly designed with affordability and durability in mind.
That means some of the components are fairly basic—but they’re also simple, reliable, and inexpensive to maintain.

Brakes

The bike comes with mechanical disc brakes rather than hydraulic ones.
They provide enough stopping power for everyday riding, although they don’t offer the same level of modulation or braking performance as hydraulic systems.
The levers require a three-finger grip, and despite being entry-level brakes, they include motor cut-off sensors, which immediately disable motor assistance when braking—a welcome safety feature.
One thing missing is a dedicated brake light.

Suspension

To keep costs low, the C29 features only a front suspension fork.
It’s a very simple design with a lockout function, allowing you to switch between rigid and suspended modes. However, there are no preload or air pressure adjustments, so customization is minimal.
Still, combined with the large wheels, it performs adequately for commuting and rough city streets.

Comfort and Riding Position

One of the biggest surprises during testing was just how comfortable the bike feels.
The large 29-inch wheels roll smoothly over bumps and potholes, while the 29 × 2.1-inch all-terrain tires add another layer of comfort.
The aluminum frame feels solid without looking overly bulky, and the complete bike weighs approximately 26.7 kg.
According to Duotts, it comfortably fits riders between 170 cm and 200 cm, with a maximum load capacity of 150 kg.
The 680 mm handlebar isn’t height adjustable, but I found the overall riding position relaxed and comfortable for longer rides.

Controls and Display

The cockpit layout is straightforward and practical.
On the left side you’ll find:
– Display controls
– Light button
– Horn button
– Front brake lever
– Gear shifter

On the right side are:
– Half-twist throttle
– Rear brake lever
– Rear gear shifter
– USB charging port for your smartphone

The display includes Bluetooth connectivity, allowing it to pair with the Duotts mobile app.
Navigation is simple and intuitive, although I did notice that the screen becomes somewhat difficult to read under bright sunlight.

Drivetrain

Even if the battery eventually runs flat, getting home shouldn’t be a major issue.
Beneath all the electrical components, the C29 is still a 21-speed mountain bike, making it reasonably easy to pedal without motor assistance.
It uses a Shimano Tourney TZ drivetrain, which is basic but dependable, inexpensive to replace, and easy to adjust if needed.
